If you like Southern style cornbread made with less flour and little or no sugar, this recipe is not for you. You really can use any ground of cornmeal. Hi Shayna, I recommend using all-purpose but if self-rising is all you have you could try reducing the baking powder to 1-1/2 teaspoons and reducing the salt to 1/2 teaspoon. Hi Maggie, I’ve never tried them with maple syrup, but I think that should work. I added 1/2 cup of corn kernels to the batter, poured it into an 8-inch baking pan, and grated some cheese on top.
