The English Curriculum 2020, in line with the CEFR, adopts an action-oriented approach to the description of communicative proficiency: it perceives the learners as language users with real-life needs. Preceding most Further Education and Training (FET) subject activities is a suggested list of language aspects used mainly in the subject. Students learn about the English language through written, spoken and visual texts of increasing complexity as they progress through their schooling. The English K-10 Syllabus is built around the explicit teaching of contextual knowledge, comprehension, thinking and reflecting skills and processes. Performance in learning outcomes is inextricably linked to proficiency in the language of learning and teaching (LoLT) and utility. English for Australian Curriculum is divided according to year groupings: Teachers can use these example units of work to support and guide learning design.
