AIR TAXI FLIGHTS: You will need to arrange a flight from Boise to Salmon for the day before your trip and from McCall to Boise after your trip. We'll rotate boats a few times each day to allow everyone the opportunity to paddle or ride in one of the oar boats. As a participant, you will be responsible for getting to the start of the trip in Salmon, either by car or air taxi, and paying for your own vehicle shuttle or flight(s) for this trip. Arrival time in McCall will be about 5:00 p.m., depending on weather conditions. Our 6 or 12-day river adventures offer a unique, human-powered way to travel through the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states. Central Idaho is in the heart of the largest, diverse complex of temperate-zone wildlands remaining in North America. Boaters who travel the river downstream pass through the largest designated wilderness in the Lower 48—the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness. We'll average 10 to 14 miles a day (five to six hours), stopping to scout rapids, explore points of interest, soak in hot springs, and enjoy a riverside picnic lunch.
As we enjoy our journey downstream, the scenery will change from rugged pine-forested mountains to black granite gorges, and then to the arid open slopes of the high desert. There are currently no trips planned. Paddle rafts are smaller boats and carry six paddlers, who paddle through the rapids and down the river. We are proud to operate under Special Use Permits granted to us by the Oregon Marine Board, the Bureau of Land Management – Klamath Falls Resource Area, Medford Oregon Resource Area, and the Vale District – and The U.S. Forest Service – Ashland Oregon Ranger District, Happy Camp Ranger District, Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest and Idaho’s Salmon-Challis National Forest. If you are flying into Boise, you can either rent a car, drive to Salmon (six hours) and have your car shuttled from Salmon to McCall during the trip, or you can arrange for air taxi service from Boise to Salmon before your trip and from McCall back to Boise after your trip.
