Perhaps it is best that we allow it to rest in peace. Attacks fall into two categories, weak and strong and like previous games, each category falls into either short or long range, depending on how far you are from the enemy. Most of the time you’ll be alternating between your short range weak and strong skills, and while it does become a bit spammy and ends up feeling unbalanced, it’s flashy, mindless fun. From Ethereal Blast to Mirror Blade, none of his skills are unique and it makes Fidel feel even more forgettable.
It’s plagued with a bland narrative, generic characters, repetitive gameplay, unskippable custcenes with sparse savepoints, unbalanced battle system, dumb AI, a jarring camera, inconsistent visuals and performance and an unsatisfying ending.
Critic Reviews (No wonder Integrity and Faithlessness avoids cutscenes so much.)
Overall, Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness is not a good game. Don't get me wrong, it's good in that you can fine-tune everyone down to actions within roles, but it's not sufficient to go on auto-pilot for several major boss battles.
parents and the party that assembles around this idea never really makes a lot of sense. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness has a few bright spots that shine like a supernova in the game's otherwise dark and cloudy sky, but the bulk of the game is a narrative and mechanical jumble that never seems fully sure what it wants to be.
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness begins like so many Japanese role-playing games: in a small town, with a young, unassuming protagonist. It’s been 7 years since Star Ocean had last gotten a major console release. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is worth a look for fans of the series or of JRPGs in general, but the fact that its shortness is such a strength in a genre that prides itself on game length is all fans really need to know about where the latest iteration of Star Ocean stands when compared to its predecessors. I'll even admit a fondness for Fiore, the supercilious sorceress whose greatest magical feat appears to be her ability to keep her porous getup from ever slipping out of place. Later, when Integrity and Faithlessness started peppering its story with boss fights that required me to protect a single character, it led me to desk-slamming depths of rage. Battles take place in real time, and run on what’s essentially a rock-paper-scissors formula. What came as a shock then was the announcement of a new console Star Ocean game. This alone makes this game a total ****ing failure.
Leveling allows you to assign up to four roles for each character to give them some kind of AI direction, but the option helps only minimally in practice. The Role system is also excellent, providing depth and customization that lets fans adapt their characters to fight the way they want. Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness’ story follows the adventures of a young swordsman named Fidel. Rating: 3.0 - Fair. As such, everything has been watered down to the point that, as long as you’re doing some amount of sidequests, you’re probably not going to run into trouble. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is a weird game in that it's a by-the-books RPG one minute, and a completely new feeling the next. Unfortunately, these are no longer tears of joy.
Perhaps I would have been less frustrated with fighting the same enemies in the same areas over and over if Integrity and Faithlessness had a stronger combat system, but this element seems as underdeveloped as most everything else in the game. But that lack of challenge feels like a concession to mechanics that couldn't feasibly shoulder the weight of a more challenging game.
It's equal parts sci-fi and high fantasy adventure, and the game begins as a fascinating and compelling telling of a first contact story. The crafting is average and almost useless.
But if the charm is there (see Legend of Dragoon), I can deal with a ragtag gang of misfits, rogues, and ne'er-do-wells for as long as it takes. Review: Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness There is very little positive to go on about this RPG. Indeed, it was nothing short of a gaming miracle.
No one actually has a dire need to help Relia, the aforementioned girl with no memory, and no one ever actually tries to provide a reason either - everyone just kind of comes along for the ride, and the first contact story quickly becomes a distant memory.
One of the main features of this game is that the entire party now participates during combat, which means you’ll have all 7 of your characters on screen at once.
