I have long wanted to experience the dark sky preserve but I have been unable to convince anyone to make the 3+ hour drive with me just to spend the night then drive back in the morning until now. Grasslands National Park experiences range from family-friendly interpretive walks to remote backcountry adventures for only the most experienced of hikers. The badlands are as barren as they can get with quicksand and hoo doos cropping up every so often. Staff are lovely, particularly on the East block. So you take your bike with you everywhere you go? I did not confront the offenders because they did not speak English and I didn’t need that hassle. While the flat prairies are part of these two areas, the badlands add beauty, variety and some substantial hills to the going. We also listened to the coyotes sing. This climb is rated as difficult but as you stand at the top of the hill you will know that is was truly worth the sweat. Here, you can walk for miles without seeing a soul creating the perfect environment for quiet reflection or friendly mischief. Grab a map and explore the Zahurski Point Route that offers you fantastic views of the badlands or leads you into a secluded valley. See it all in a matter of hours as you cruise along the Ecotour Road. Your phone becomes your tour guide as you explore the Queen City with a self-guided audio walking tour!

The Frenchman River Valley presents you with endless possibilities of wildlife sightings and archaeological discoveries. The changing landscape will take your breath away as seemingly endless hills give way to desolate badlands.Tipi ring settlements of Otter Creek Ridge and the badlands’ Baculite fossils will take you back to a different era. To meet the minimum price for this booking service, we're including a $5 Starbucks e-card. That drive was very much appreciated as I am in a wheelchair so unable to do any of the hikes. We also hiked in the West Block doing the 70 mile Butte trail which was very scenic, and the Broken Hills trail which was alittle less scenic but definitely gives you the feel of the Grasslands. There is a visitor center that sold some trinkets as well as staff to answer any questions you may have. The best was seeing the Badlands, the buffalo on the plains and the pronghorn antelope, Grasslands is actually two parks, the east and west block. It wasn’t just because of the international tourists wandering around with bright white light lanterns, which is against the published rules but which, apparently, they don’t bother to enforce. However, when planning a trip the person I spoke to at the West block had little experience actually hiking or camping in the park. Continue your visit to www.tripadvisor.ca.
